  Groundwater Remedial Investigation Activities:
The State Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) conditionally approved the Groundwater Remedial Investigation (RI) Report in July 2007. The Groundwater RI presents data that were collected to assess potential impacts from waste materials to the shallow groundwater below the Ascon Landfill Site. These data include:

  • Four quarterly groundwater sampling events conducted in 2004, one sampling event conducted in 2006, and groundwater sampling in the Pit F area in 2006.
  • Chemical analysis of groundwater samples for selected constituents of concern.

These data were used to evaluate potential risks (if any) to the public and environment that were considered when selecting the final remedial alternative. The Groundwater RI concludes that there is no evidence that the Site has had any significant impact on the groundwater and that groundwater at the Site, as in the general area, has been degraded as a result of seawater intrusion.
