Ascon Landfill Site
Huntington Beach, California

History
The Ascon Landfill Site occupies approximately 38 acres in the southern part of the city of Huntington Beach, California, approximately 0.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean.

The site was used as a disposal facility from 1938 to 1984. Industrial and oil field waste were disposed there until 1971. From 1971 to 1984 construction debris was disposed at the site.

Ascon has 5 existing “lagoons” (waste-filled depressions that collect storm water during the rain season) covering ~30% of the site and 8 pits (3 near the northwest corner and 5 near the southeast corner) that were reportedly filled with industrial waste. Of these pits, only Pit F remains exposed (the others are buried).

The Site is fenced, and access is controlled. Security is in cooperation with the City of Huntington Beach Police Department and the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
